I just bought a IBM 560e thinkpad. It doesn’t have a USB port or cd-rom. If i buy a USB SATA IED, would i be able to hook up my cd-rom and hard drive to my laptop. With the USB outlet, would i be able to hook up my devices that have USB to this USB port.

A USB SATA IDE Adaptor is a device that allows you to connect IDE and SATA connectors to your laptops USB port.In your case your laptop does not have a USB port.So the answer to your questions is NO.You can not use such adaptor on your machine.

Well your description doesn’t make sense unless there is some combo PC-Card I am not aware of. You can buy a USB PC-CARD (PCMCIA) for a thinkpad which would allow you to connect USB devices including external hard drive enclosures to your system. That would be a way to connect a hard drive. There are also PC-CARD SCSI and SATA cards, but that isn’t very practical for travel.
