I purchased a USB to ATA/IDE adapter today. I hooked it up to my toshiba satelite laptop with a Hitachi SATA HDD 80g 75000rpm. The system does not give me any error bor I have not the faintest idea where or how to start backing up my data from my laptop. I don’t see the hard drive in MY COMPUTER. THe only thing I have is the safe to remove button on the tool bar. Geeks Please help!
Sorry, HDD is 7500rpm

What laptop hard drive adapter do I need?

My laptop died, and everything that I had is store on a hard drive, so I took that part off.
Now I want to transfer most of my stuff, pictures, etc. onto my desktop.
I can’t seem to find the right adapter… any idea?
The hard drive is from a Toshiba Satellite a215 laptop.
Hard drive is Fujitsu, Model MHX2250BT and Part NO. CA06846-B210000T

Do i need a SATA adapter?

Laptop model : Toshiba Satellite M105 Series

I may have ordered the wrong hard drive, but I want to make sure that it was my mistake and I want to know if it would be something I could get an adapter for it before I pay the restocking fee.
Here are pictures of the two drives and their specs, first the original drive that came with the laptop:

Look at the part that looks to be made of copper (interface?) and meets with a corresponding piece on the laptop (Mothorbord?), its on the top of the first images and on the bottom image. These two pieces are different, the original has copper pieces that stick into the laptop, but the new drive has a piece that looks to lay onto another piece.

So, where did I mess up, and is their any way I can use the new drive?

Thanks

USB external case for MK4021GAS drive?

I have a Toshiba MK4021GAS 2.5" notebook drive, which I got from my nonworking laptop. I want to connect the hdd to my pc to access its files. I used a maxtor mini edition case and put the hdd inside, but when I connected the device to my computer nothing showed up. Then I connected a 5V adapter to the external drive in case the USB cable could not deliver enough power. Still the hdd is not working. No LED light is turned on on the hdd, but I can feel small movements in the drive when I connect the power. The external case works with my other maxtor hard disk. Can you suggest any external case that can run my hard disk, or you have any suggestions?
I bought another external case from CCity, and it didn’t help. Redfive94901, why do you think I have to set master/slave pins? This HDD is connected through USB port. Maste setting is needed when you connect more than one HDD with IDE or SATA. The laptop actually has a motherboard problem. Also there’s the possibility that the HDD’s motor or head is missaligned or not working properly. If that’s the case, where should I take it to fix?

How can I access a password protected hard drive?

I have a toshiba satellite a105 laptop. 2 days ago I plugged it in while it was on and the battery was still full, but my power adapter failed and caused a power surge that made the laptop turn itself off immediately and the adapter’s light to turn off. Since then I was not able to turn the laptop on with the battery, and the adapter remained dead. I removed the hard drive and put it in an external usb case. When I plugged it into another computer, the computer could not read the hdd, although it recognized it as a usb storage device. Previously I had placed a built-in hdd password on it, so I think this is the reason. I really need the data still on the drive, but I don’t have a few hundred bucks to pay geek squad. I have the password, so I wonder if I can hook my hdd to another computer and boot from it and remove the password to make it accessible as a usb drive? Do you know if this will work, or an alternative way for me to get to my data?
@ JoelKatz: I set the password by entering the boot menu/ BIOS at start up. There was an option to set an HDD password. I chose to do it because it is secure but now it is backfiring because my hdd is unreadable to other computer. I don’t really need to bypass the password since I know it, I just need to know if hooking my hdd to another computer and booting from it would enable me to get back to the boot menu/BIOS and remove the password. Many thanks!

Toshiba Portege R705-P25 Laptop review

The Portege R705 is a 13-inch laptop (similar to Apple’s MacBook), which is the biggest screen size we’d consider carrying around on a regular basis, but also the smallest we’d be able to comfortably use for full-time computing. It’s thinner than the current white plastic MacBook (but not as svelte as the MacBook Air or Dell Adamo XPS), and has a sturdy magnesium alloy chassis. Toshiba lists the Portege R705 for 9, but as of this writing, it can be found online for 9. A handful of business-oriented configs are also available (called the R700, instead of the R705), adding a docking port and a few other corporate-friendly features for 9 and up. For 0-0 less than an entry-level MacBook, you get a newer Intel Core i3 processor (the basic MacBook has an older Core 2 Duo CPU), a large 500GB hard drive, and Intel’s Wireless Display technology, which allows the laptop’s display to be beamed to a remote TV or monitor (this requires a sold-separately 0 Netgear adapter that connects to your TV). Not to draw too many MacBook comparisons, but it also has an SD card slot (as does virtually every Windows-based laptop no matter the price), something the 9 MacBook lacks.

i have a toshiba hard drive mk2555gsx that i pulled from my laptop after it stopped working and was wondering what kind of cord or adapter i would need to plug it into my desktop computer so i could retrieve the files of it… thanks

I have a drive from a toshiba satellite a65 and would like to put it into a toshiba satellite m35x but when I do it does not boot up. It just goes to a blank screenwith a underscore in the top left. Someone gave me the m35x but there was no hard drive. The machine is faster than my old one but I want to keep all my data and programs. I did purchase the adapter that was needed. Is there something I am doing wrong?
The main reason I would like to do this is because my old laptop’s power jack is busted, so I can’t put the drive back into the old laptop without fixing it. I know how but dont want to go through the trouble.

I have a Toshiba laptop computer, works totally fine. but when I take my old toshiba laptops (internal) hard drive and try and swap it it doesn’t work.

Both hard drives are virtually identical. Both connect to the laptop the same way when I open the panel underneath. EXCEPT on the old laptop it had an adapter on the prongs that I have to remove in order to make it fit.
But once i remove that plastic adapter both hard drives look identical and are labelled identical. so i can place the old hard drive in the new toshiba computer.

the problem happens when I turn the computer on, it freezes on a black screen after the windows (XP) "loading" dots. Than the screen just goes black.
When I try booting up in safe mode with command prompt it fires through all of the Windows .dll files it needs to load on the screen but hangs on crccheck and just freezes.

any help? i just want my old hard drive to work on this machine. it connects perfectly fine. hard drive is a
Toshiba Disk Drive MK2035GSS
HDD2A30
It’s the data i want on the drive. i could careless about the drive.
any ideas how i can get the data off of it to another drive?
i cant even access a terminal when i put it into the laptop. and i only have one laptop

I have an Acer Aspire 5520 that has died from a cpu failure. It came with a Toshiba 2.5" SATA HDD and I am wanting to recover some important files. I know that the best way is to buy a laptop hard drive adapter kit, but my question is which one will be compatible? I found this one http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sk… but it says it allows a 2.5" IDE laptop drive to work as a 3.5" IDE drive. If I am reading this right, this is not what I want since the drive is SATA. My desktop is IDE so I am looking for an adapter that will allow my 2.5" SATA drive to plug into my IDE cable on my desktop and run as a secondary storage device so I can just copy the files to a flash drive. I am just a little confused when I search for this and don’t want to spend the money and it be the wrong adapter. Is there anyone with experience doing this that can point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

I know my toshiba came from factory with an ATA hard drive but can I use a SATA hard drive since they’re abundant in choice from Best buy and other retailers? Will I need any special adapters like an IDE to SATA? I’ve been looking at a Seagate barracuda 500GB SATA/300 HD from best buy, will that work?

Can I boot up my laptop with 3.5 hard drive?

Okay i was wondering if i buy the 3.5 to 2.5 adapter, would the 3.5 work as a boot agent on my laptop? I dont have a bios that asks for External usb hard drive boot.
I dont care about it fitting. All i care about is working and booting my Toshiba Portege 7200cte :O
Its not technically a USB since im plugging it into the IDE slot isnt it?

Trying to view my Laptop’s Hard drive ?

I want to view my laptop’s hard drive on my pc, I don’t want to open the case to view anything, I want to be able to just plug the USB that’s connected to the hard drive and view it that way. I have an adapter that connects to the hard drive on one end, the other end has a camera size port that plugs easily into a USB adapter. When i plug it into the USB it says it’s looking for USB software. But this camera connector is used to view other sources never asking for any software. Does anyone know how what I need to do to make this work?
The hard drive and laptop have the same name, Toshiba. It’s a 2.1gb hard drive.
And the pc is a dell.

old laptop hard drive recovery help?

I have a Toshiba HDD2188 80GB laptop hard drive I am trying to recover data from. I thought about buying the VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter to get the data from it. Will the pinset fit? 43, 4. I think it will work but im not 100% sure.

I need to reformat my Laptop and I have important documents on the drive. How can I transfer the data to my desktop. The laptop doesnt boot up properly so I cant copy it normally. I already have an adapter to convert it from 44 pin to 40 pin. When I turn on the computer, the drive is there, but when I open it, the window closes right away. Is there like a recovery program I can use. I have advanced computer knowledge so please help me in anyway. I need that data otherwise I wouldnt care.
