Not to long ago, I was using my laptop when all the sudden, it wouldn’t boot up completely. I think its the hard drive, in fact I am almost certain its the hard drive. My question is, what are some of the steps I need to take in order to successfully swap my hard drive? When I turn the computer on it displays the following message…

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realteck TRL8100E/8101E Fast Ethernet Network Adapter v1.02 (060510)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

… then it keeps repeating the same message. the reason why I think its the hard drive is because when the hard drive is in the computer it makes a repetitive noise, almost as if it wants to start up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I just took at look at the Bios, and both with and without the hard drive installed it read "no hard drive." One problem down, now whats next? After getting a new hard drive, how do I go abouts to getting it running right? How do I install windows?

I have a gateway t-1631 laptop and recently i installed a new hard drive. When i installed it my computer stopped getting wifi and i have no idea how to access my webcam either (it only works when i use video chat). I keep getting this message "this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured" when i try to diagnose the problem. I install the newest hardware from the manufactures website, but it still doesn’t work. Does anyone know what may be wrong?

I had to install a new hard drive in my laptop today. I did it myself and was able to successfully reload the OS (Windows Vista) and get the machine running again. Everything is working great except I can’t connect to my wireless network. It keeps telling me that the adapter is unplugged. I don’t really understand what this means because I never needed any adapter to get online before. I did get online using an ethernet cable and downloaded updates from Microsoft but it didn’t help. (That was what the troubleshooting window on the computer told me to do) Can anyone help me? My daughter has to use this laptop for college so it has to be able to connect wirelessly.

If I drag and drop all my files from my current hard drive to the new one, will my OS still boot off of the new Hard Drive or do I have to install it again?

How do I to an wipe XP hard drive?

I tried to update to KIS 2009. Something has gone horribly wrong (klif.sys file error) and now I cannot even boot in safe mode. It sticks in the black safe mode screen. In normal mode, it just keep cycling trying to boot and giving the BSOD. I cannot use the recovery console because I don’t have an admn password and cannot get to the registry to change it.

A couple of months ago, I installed this WD 250 gb hard drive after cloning it using Apicorn adapter/cloning software from the original 100 gb 2.5 hard drive IDE. I have the idea to put the 100 gb hard drive back in the laptop and totally wipe the new 250 gb hard drive. Then I’ll reclone the old hard drive to the new hard drive like I did two months ago.

Will this work and how do I do it?
I want to restore the WD 250 gb hard drive to the condition it was in when it came from Newegg.
My solution — I took the new (250 gb) hard drive out and put the old (100 gb) hard drive back in the laptop. I put the 250 in an enclosure, formatted it thru Windows Explorer, cloned it with Apricorn adapter/software, and put it back in the laptop. Now my laptop is running again and I have internet protection.

Hard drive crashed. Need to access?

My hard drive crashed. (laptop).I took it out and connected it to my other pc using a USB to IDE adapter to try to retrieve my files. But all it does is spin and click. You know, like when they are totally hosed. Is there anything I can look for to fix if I take the hard drive apart or at this point is it damaged beyond repair. Serious answers only please! Thanks

I need to take apart the existing drive and try to see what went wrong and try to correct. it is a leased machine. I can’t buy parts for it. I need to take apart and see if I can fix it with out replacing major parts. Thanks

When I put my charger in the battery doesn’t charge and I thought that it was the adapter so I bought another one but it still doesn’t charge. Is it the place where you stick your adapter in? (I’m sorry, I don’t know what it’s called. I hope you understand what I’m tryin to say) Or is it the battery? How much will it cost to get a new hard drive and to fix the other problem? Please answer, thank you
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000
My hard drive crashed. Please tell me what it’ll cost to get a new one
I tried taking the battery out and when I turn it on it comes on for a minute then it shuts off. I think it’s the place where you stick the adapter
John, it just turns on and shows the Windows XP logo then it shuts off

I recently bought a 120 gig hard drive to replace my 30 gig. I used byte-to-byte copying software to copy the contents of my current hard drive. All of my files are on the new one, but when I put the new one into the laptop, it doesn’t boot. BIOS recognizes the hard drive and correct size of the drive, but won’t boot windows off of it. Is there something I am doing wrong or a file i need to change? I have tried two different programs for coying files, and I am using a USB to IDE adapter for my new hard drive. Different BIOS settings? anything to change? thank you in advance

Is there a universal sata laptop adapter?

I just recently purchased a laptop and when I received it there was no cable or adapter to hook up my new hard drive. When I purchased the laptop the previous owner removed the hard drive and apparently a plastic connector piece. I am using a Compaq F572us and it uses a Sata II hard drive. Just curious if there’s anything I can do, it’s the weekend so I can’t contact HP directly. Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop and the hard drive stopped working. I looked online for any information about finding compatibility between laptop hard drives. Everything I looked up said that all hard drives are compatible. Now that I have my new Hard Drive (SATA), it doesn’t look that same as my previous hard drive did. My old one had pin connections and my new one does not. (I took the original out of the cradle that allows me to put it in my computer – they still look different)

The only difference I see between the hard drives is that my new one is a SATA while my old is an ATA/IDE.

Does this explain why they look different? Can I buy an adapter or must I buy another hard drive?

Thanks!

Need help with replacing hard drive for laptop?

I have a HP dv5000 laptop with a 80GB hard drive. It is running out of room so I got a new hard drive. Although the drives are the same size, but there are no pins on the new hard drive as it is a SATA drive. Just wonder what can I do now. It looks like all the drive from Newegg are SATA drive. Is there an adapter? But it is very tight in the HDD slot. TIA.

I am trying to install a new hard drive in my laptop. Is there a special adapter for the laptop HD? Any help is appreciated.

Replacing a laptop hard drive?

So I was also wondering, if I did replace my laptop’s hard drive, how do I get windows on it? The recovery program has to be booted up, like.. needs Acer E Recovery to reformat. I have disc for reformatting, but they don’t really do anything. I tried the laptop doesn’t boot the disc. Is it possible to copy my entire laptop hard drive’s data to my desktop’s secondary hard drive, then plug in my new hard drive and place all those files into that hard drive. Would that work? I could purchase a 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive adapter thingie for 10 bucks… But I’m worried it won’t work.
I would kind of like my original windows xp x.x
