HP PAVILION LAPTOP) The RCA plug was plugged in the audio and somebody walked pass it and knocked the RCA off but the metal piece of the RCA got stuck inside and I think it messed up my motherboard because now my computer cannot restart or go on standby.

Also, it only powers up if the AC adapter is plugged in. It will not start with the battery..just show a blank screen and the lights only but after it starts it’ll still run on the battery so maaybe the motherboard or hard drive is defective? Will hp warranty cover my motherboard/hard drive because of that?

I have my external hard disk or hard drive…I dont know which is which but it requires a power source it was working fine but now non of my computers "sees" it…I tried my desktop several times and USB ports later I gave up and connected it to my HP laptop…again..tried all the ports and nothing happens. Then I realized that the adapter isn’t heating up as it usually does? Do I just need to get a new power adapter or is it hopeless? I just need to recover those files…actually image/graphic templates for my site…very important to me.

I will be replacing the dc power jack cable and dc power jack cable in fast motion on my HP Pavillion DV5000 series laptop. This video was made just for fun. h10032.www1.hp.com Brand: HP Model: Pavillion dv5035nr Music by: BES Song: #270 www.besbeats.com www.myspace.com/playarythmns.com

Do I need power adapter for IDE to USB cable?

this was my previous question:

Desktop pc can’t boot up – how do I transfer the data on the hard drive?
I have a win XP HP pavillion desktop and it can’t find boot.ini – before I do any repairs to it I want to transfer over the data as backup in case I wipe it – I have a Vista laptop and I can’t run a CD in the XP…
people hav recommended that I take out the hard drive… but what do I do after that? and is taking out the hard drive as easy as people make it sound?

I was told to check out IDE to USB cables
when I looked them up, there were ones that came w/o power adapters and ones that do
since I’m trying to transfer the data to my laptop after I take out the hard drive, do I need a power adapter?

Wireless Network on laptop not working on G band?

I have a hp Compaq nc6000 notebook it was shipped OEM with the "HP W500 802.11a/b/g WLAN – network adapter " but after the Hard Drive failed and a new one installed fresh XP pro the darn thing only communicates wirelessly on 802.11b.

Furthermore if I go onto the laptop adapter properties advanced tab/ Wireless mode and set value to the following settings:
1.5 GHz only and laptop does not find any wireless networks.
2. If value is set 5ghz + 2.4 (default) laptop will find 3 networks in range.
3.If I set wireless router to G only the laptop looses all networks.
4. Therefore I have declared I am not using the 802.11g with this Compaq nc6000.
When I go to Device Manager / network adapters- it list "HP WLAN 802.11a/b W500" notice no G.

Why is this and how do I verify and install the adapter / drivers correctly so that i can use the 802.11g?

Any troubleshooting assistance is greatly appreciated.

everything else is working up to spec.

Out of warentee Hp won’t assist.

Drivers are fresh and new from HP support site.

Hard Drive Data Recovery Tool

This video is on a very useful data recovery tool that you can get from ebay for about 5 bucks and recover data from your supposedly “crashed” hard drive

We have 2 HP Pavilion Dv5000 laptops. One of them will not start up. I have tested the ram, the hard drive, AC adapter/power cord, both batteries in the other laptop and the hardware all works.
So in the bad laptop, all the lights come on, fan comes on, DVD drive works, but laptop refuses to boot up. Cant get anything up on the screen to go into BIOS or Safe mode. After everything we have read and tried, we have come to the conclsion either the CPU got fried or the motherboard has gone bad. Just trying to figure out if the laptop would still have power and lights if the CPU or motherboard is dead. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

PS… do not tell me to call HP or take it to a tech repair, I cant afford it and HP refuses to help anyone. Its all over google about these laptops & HPs horrible customer service/lack of help with this issue.
In response, I have tried to hook it up to a working monitor and still doesnt work. Also, I have tried the "Fn + F6" trick which has seamed to work wonders for everyone else and the cycling the power trick (removing batteries, power cord, holding power button down for 30 secs to 1 min, then plug in and power up) Nothine of them has worked. Ok, thank you for the great answers and advice. It is very much appreciated. I will leave this question up just in case anyone else has anything to add to the list. Thanks again guys :)

I have several hard drives that I pulled from older desktops. I bought branded R-Driver III USB 2.0 TO SATA CABLE. The instructions say to leave the device set to ‘master’. When I plugged in the USB to my laptop (HP G71 running Windows 7 HP) it recognized the device and I got a notification that the USB device was ready to use. It dissappeared and the device is nowhere to be found on the laptop. So, I went to click ‘safely remove’ and it wasnt there either. I tried unplugging it and plugging it in again and nothing happened. I attached another hard drive to the adapter and still nothing happened. I also tried setting the device to slave. Again, nothing. I’ve already gone into manage computer and disk management. Any advise on how to pull up the "external" hard drive on my laptop would be greatly appreciated!!!
yes, the power was attached as well. i heard the hard working even before i put the USB into the laptop

I used a USB 2.0 to IDE or SATA adapter from Cables to Go to connect the hard drive from my tower pc(running XP) to my new HP Pavilion 9000 laptop loaded with Vista. The hard drive that I connected was the hard drive loaded with the XP OS, and also had a "system restore/recovery" partition on it. It had special recovery software from Emachines (the manufacturer of the PC) I think.

Usually when the Emachines PC is booted, it first shows the main screen with the Emachines logo and also mentions "[F9] for Boot Options] and the like. Then there is a black screen that says "Press [F11] to start recovery __". The "__" is a countdown that always starts from 2 and then goes to 0. When it gets to 0 it always goes to a new screen where it informs you that it is loading Windows XP. I believe the countdown was to inform the user that after 2 seconds, it would be to late to press [F11] and therefore would have to restart the PC in order to perform the System Recovery. Anyway, it no longer behaves the way it should. Now, instead of continuing to the next screen after the count down ends, it posts a new line in the prompt bellow the first one with the same text as the previous line along with a new 2 sec. count down. It repeats the same thing over and over for eternity. I let it cycle through about 300 lines of crap and shut it down. After several more boots, it does the same thing, and the only response to me actually pressing [F11] is that the current line’s count down ends instantly, only to create a new line. Is this because I connected it to a Vista PC? The hard drive definitely works, but why can’t it be booted from? It’s detected by my old PC and it even loads to the "System Recovery" screen, so it must be connecting. Is there some way I can make the hard drive bootable again?

Also, I already tried using the same adapter with my tower PC and tried booting it that way, but it also freezes on the same screen.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

My Everex laptop’s motherboard is fried, but I’ve been told the hard drive is still intact. Now, getting another laptop (especially an Everex, since I’ve heard the company has moved and they must’ve since I can’t find one) is out of the question, but the desktop I have is an HP.

I’ve looked up ways to transfer my files and it looks like I need some sort of adapter to install a laptop drive into a desktop, but does the different brand make it unfeasible? When I can afford another laptop, will the brand make any difference then?
