I am pretty sure it is, but just thought I’d get a little more input… It’s an HP Nx9010 laptop, 2.4 ghz, Mobil Intel Pentium 4, used but in excellent condition, 80gig hard drive, cdrw/dvd rom, 512mb ram, ATI video card, 3 usb ports, 15inch display, built in wireless adapter, battery, power supply, has Windows XP Professional installed, and battery holds a good charge. —->0.00
This is what I know at the moment when buying a laptop:
1) Hard disk drive: 80 Gb or greater
2) RAM: 512 MB (2GB or greater..better)
3) Processor: 2.1GHz
4) Numerous USB ports, well as VGA, DVI,serial, PC card slot, and parallel ports
5) Integrated 802.11g wireless adapter (WiFi) compatibility
6) Warranty: at least 2 year on both software and hardware issues(better)
7) Intels new Core 2 Duo CPU’s or AMD Battery life: want 12-cell, but a 9-cell is alright
9) I want Windows XP Pro
10) dual 8800gtx sli ( I have no idea what this means, can someone explain this one to me)
11) Built-wireless and CD/DVD burner
12) Rotational speed hard drive 7200 RPM
13) Screen size: 14" to 15.4" (I want light weight but big enough to read what I am typing)
14) I would also like to be able to connect my digital camera to it.
I think I have research everything I think I need to know, but if anyone can add please feel free to do so. I just don’t know which brand is better than the other.

I just bought a IBM 560e thinkpad. It doesn’t have a USB port or cd-rom. If i buy a USB SATA IED, would i be able to hook up my cd-rom and hard drive to my laptop. With the USB outlet, would i be able to hook up my devices that have USB to this USB port.
Its got a- Pentinium 3 processor, WiFi card, AC adapter, 256 MB Ram, 20 GB hard drive, and DVD player/disc drive, and its newley refurbished with plug in battery charger, speakers and a 14 inch screen. Its old but I think its worth it. and it costs 0 dollars. Is that a good deal and is it a good laptop?
HP PAVILION LAPTOP) The RCA plug was plugged in the audio and somebody walked pass it and knocked the RCA off but the metal piece of the RCA got stuck inside and I think it messed up my motherboard because now my computer cannot restart or go on standby.
Also, it only powers up if the AC adapter is plugged in. It will not start with the battery..just show a blank screen and the lights only but after it starts it’ll still run on the battery so maaybe the motherboard or hard drive is defective? Will hp warranty cover my motherboard/hard drive because of that?
I have my external hard disk or hard drive…I dont know which is which but it requires a power source it was working fine but now non of my computers "sees" it…I tried my desktop several times and USB ports later I gave up and connected it to my HP laptop…again..tried all the ports and nothing happens. Then I realized that the adapter isn’t heating up as it usually does? Do I just need to get a new power adapter or is it hopeless? I just need to recover those files…actually image/graphic templates for my site…very important to me.
I purchased a USB to ATA/IDE adapter today. I hooked it up to my toshiba satelite laptop with a Hitachi SATA HDD 80g 75000rpm. The system does not give me any error bor I have not the faintest idea where or how to start backing up my data from my laptop. I don’t see the hard drive in MY COMPUTER. THe only thing I have is the safe to remove button on the tool bar. Geeks Please help!
Sorry, HDD is 7500rpm
I’m not sure how else to ask the question. I had a hard drive from an older computer that I figured I’d keep to use for storage and backups.
I used one of those universal converters that allow me to hook it up as an external drive. When it first connected, I turned off the ‘autoplay’ function immediately because it started running through files.
Anyway, I immediately did nothing other than start a scan with AVAST. It found a worm. It wouldn’t clean it either. So, I immediately disconnected the drive (just unplugged – didn’t ask or do it through the menu).
I’m concerned that my main drive w/ the OS system is now infected. I’ve got it scanning right now, but I’m concerned that it if was infected, AVAST won’t work properly.
I’m asking this from my laptop.
One other comment that might make a difference – the episode knocked it off the wireless network. Now, the netgear adapter on that pc can’t see my wireless network.
This is very strange. Details aside, the bottom line question is – will the simple act of linking up a hard drive spread a virus that has infected it? Would the virus scanner "wake it up" somehow?
Any input would be appreciated.

JEH,
Thanks so much for the solid input. I did not power down. I was leary that it would enable the virus to gain a better ‘toehold’ – although I don’t understand them well enough to know this for sure.
The network is working fine, as I was able to link in using my laptop. I have had occasional bugginess w/ the netgear setup but it’s usually ok. I did not allow autoplay to play anything or open anything. My mind will rest easier, but nonethess I will scan the living s&*% out of it in the next couple of days. (I’m doing the complete scan using avast right now, using the deepest setting.). Next, I’ll reboot and do it from the boot level. Thanks again
That statement was ambiguous. The network is working fine now. I powered down the modem and router then turned it on again. I still have no idea if I needed to or not as I did it before I turned on the laptop.
Im trying to get all the data from a hard drive that was in a old broken computer that i had, the problem is that i keep getting i/o device error as the operating system on the hard drive is windows 98 compared to the vista software on the laptop im trying to upload the info onto. Any ideas how i can tell the comp to just use one operating system or resolve this problem? Here is the SATA/IDE combo adapter i am using to transfer the data…

Desktop pc can’t boot up – how do I transfer the data on the hard drive?
I have a win XP HP pavillion desktop and it can’t find boot.ini – before I do any repairs to it I want to transfer over the data as backup in case I wipe it – I have a Vista laptop and I can’t run a CD in the XP…
people hav recommended that I take out the hard drive… but what do I do after that? and is taking out the hard drive as easy as people make it sound?
I was told to check out IDE to USB cables
when I looked them up, there were ones that came w/o power adapters and ones that do
since I’m trying to transfer the data to my laptop after I take out the hard drive, do I need a power adapter?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 I bought in December 2005 and now it is basically useless. It runs very slow; if the AC adapter comes out it turns off; I no longer have my original startup page and somehow I am no longer able to access Microsoft word. I am interested in purchasing a new laptop that will last longer with good battery life and a Microsoft package but I am clueless about REM, hard drive, etc.
I have a hp Compaq nc6000 notebook it was shipped OEM with the "HP W500 802.11a/b/g WLAN – network adapter " but after the Hard Drive failed and a new one installed fresh XP pro the darn thing only communicates wirelessly on 802.11b.
Furthermore if I go onto the laptop adapter properties advanced tab/ Wireless mode and set value to the following settings:
1.5 GHz only and laptop does not find any wireless networks.
2. If value is set 5ghz + 2.4 (default) laptop will find 3 networks in range.
3.If I set wireless router to G only the laptop looses all networks.
4. Therefore I have declared I am not using the 802.11g with this Compaq nc6000.
When I go to Device Manager / network adapters- it list "HP WLAN 802.11a/b W500" notice no G.
Why is this and how do I verify and install the adapter / drivers correctly so that i can use the 802.11g?
Any troubleshooting assistance is greatly appreciated.
everything else is working up to spec.

Hey guys, here is a quick video on how to convert a 2.5″ laptop IDE Drive to an external USB External drive. Amazon no longer sells these enclosures but here is the link to Tiger Direct www.tigerdirect.com
More details : The laptop kid of died a couple of times but I managed to bring it back to life with the crash-recovery disk that came from the manufacturer ( Sony ). But then it crashed again..tried to use the recover cd again…and crashed in the middle of the process.
Now when I boot the laptop I only get the message ‘no operating system found’.
The hard drive had a partition with the personal stuff on it…music and pictures..that kind of stuff and it´s what I am trying to recover.
I have removed the hard drive and plugged to my desktop pc through one of those USB adapters..but it doesnt actually reads anything..it´s like it´s not even connected.
I have even tried to start the laptop with a Linux boot cd….as if I wanted to install Linux as a new partition there, just to see if it reads the old data (music/photos) partition still there…but again, can´t see it there..
So, any other options I have to see if the data partition ( music/photos ) has survived the ‘crash’…that I can try at home?
I have a USB NexStar adapter that I am using to connect my laptop xp hard drive to my windows 7 computer. In Disk Management I can see it is connected and it shows the amount of used space on the hard drive and it says unallocated on my computer. How do I go about transferring the files from the hard drive onto my computer?
How do I know what file type it is? I cannot boot from it or find the file type under properties when its connected to the adapter.
I may have ordered the wrong hard drive, but I want to make sure that it was my mistake and I want to know if it would be something I could get an adapter for it before I pay the restocking fee.
Here are pictures of the two drives and their specs, first the original drive that came with the laptop:
Specs:
Look at the part that looks to be made of copper (interface?) and meets with a corresponding piece on the laptop (Mothorbord?), its on the top of the first images and on the bottom image. These two pieces are different, the original has copper pieces that stick into the laptop, but the new drive has a piece that looks to lay onto another piece.
So, where did I mess up, and is their any way I can use the new drive?
