Ok so about 9 months ago my old computer crashed, it was some custom built one with a samsung SP1213N internal hdd.

I never really new what the problem was, I am not that tech savvy but it was christmas time so I just got a good deal on a new laptop.

Now recently it has come to my attention that i can retrieve files from this dead computer’s hard drive , using a cable that would turn it into a external hard drive that I could just plug in to my laptop’s usb.

Would a USB 2.0 to IDE ATA External Hard Disk CD-ROM DVD Drive Adapter Converter Cable work for a samsung SP1213N?

Please I really need help because I had allot of important pictures on that computer like family stuff and some writing.

I have my external hard disk or hard drive…I dont know which is which but it requires a power source it was working fine but now non of my computers "sees" it…I tried my desktop several times and USB ports later I gave up and connected it to my HP laptop…again..tried all the ports and nothing happens. Then I realized that the adapter isn’t heating up as it usually does? Do I just need to get a new power adapter or is it hopeless? I just need to recover those files…actually image/graphic templates for my site…very important to me.
