Remember in my old computer I mentioned in my new computer video which supposedly had a fried motherboard? Well I fixed it! The USB ports would not work (so the keyboard and mouse wouldn’t work, so I couldn’t do anything when it was turned on), so before coming to the conclusion that the motherboard was fried, I purchased this PCi usb adapter to try to add USB ports so I could use those: www.microcenter.com When I tried to use this, it still wouldn’t work, leaving me to think the motherboard was fried and all the computer would be good for is scrap metal. Then I purchased a enclosure (KingWin F – 35) for the hard drive from the dead computer so I could use it as an external hard drive on my new computer and access my data. Around 3 weeks later (today), I got an idea. I installed the drivers for the usb pci card onto the dead computer’s hard drive, and tried it out. And it worked! Now I have four working USB ports on the old computer, so it is now 100% usable. I can add more with a usb hub if I need it. This is not that big of a deal, I’ll still mainly use my new computer (Dell XPS 8100), but as the old computer was my first computer and still runs well I am glad to have it back. I will probably keep it on a small desk in my living room or something, or keep it on the same desk as the new computer. If anyone is curios, here is it’s spec (decent, nothing too old nothing too modern): Model Name: Dell XPS 400 Windows XP Media Edition 32 bit, SP3 ATI Radeon x300 128MB Graphics …

I have my laptop…and i got it during last christmas. And its been perfect! and all i use it for is internet and pictures. But a few weeks ago My laptop kept giving me error pop ups about my AC adapter, and how it was not the right one for my computer and how if i don’t have the right one my computer won’t Function right, the thing about that is. it was the same exact cord that i bought with the laptop, and it worked up until this point. Then….My laptop started to slowly die, and I THOUGHT that it was charging, but it really wasn’t it used what battery was left. But once my laptop finally died….(over night when i wasn’t using it, but i had it plugged in) I tried to turn it on and it said The ac adapter is not the one ment for this laptop. and told me to get the one that is 60hz or more. i looked at my cord and it was that DX…
Now when i try to turn my laptop on, it says i have no hard drive!….
And i’ve Tried many things, and also my friend matt had tried, but nothing worked.
why does it say i have no hard drive? i never took it out xD
D:
this situation depresses me a lot.
i just want my laptop to work again. i loved it.
help?
taking the battery out then trying it, did not work.
I might just send it back to dell….or just give up and earn more money and get a holw new laptop.
I want to view my laptop’s hard drive on my pc, I don’t want to open the case to view anything, I want to be able to just plug the USB that’s connected to the hard drive and view it that way. I have an adapter that connects to the hard drive on one end, the other end has a camera size port that plugs easily into a USB adapter. When i plug it into the USB it says it’s looking for USB software. But this camera connector is used to view other sources never asking for any software. Does anyone know how what I need to do to make this work?
The hard drive and laptop have the same name, Toshiba. It’s a 2.1gb hard drive.
And the pc is a dell.

my insprion 5100 has a bad mobo, i bought a old gateway from a buddy for a 30 bucks to use until i can either get a new mobo or a new computer, i would like to get my music and other files off the laptop. i have tried using a vantec sata/Ide to usb adapter, the computer will see the see the adapter but not the hard drive. i have tried using the sata to ide adapter and going straight tot he ide cable in the computer, no matter what jumper and boot settings i use it seems to either try and boot from the laptop drive, or or just not boot at all, not sure what it is doing. will this work, or am i screwed? any ideas, i really don;t want to have to start over again copying music, i would have a back up but the burner went bad a while back in the dell, yes i know, it has been through hell and has been a good laptop, i just need my files.
My old Dell Laptop (1993) with: 2Gb HD, 8Mb RAM, 1Mb Video Ram, Intel 486 DX2 @66Mhz. No floppy drive (broken) or battery. Currently I put files on it using an USB—IDE adapter. This is an example of how the modern PC are built: they can keep working for 15 years! Currently, this pc has been reformatted with its original 341Mb hard drive. I can put files on it only through Interlnk and Intersvr (see other video). After some hours of modifying the original config.sys and autoexec.bat I finally got a sort of Multi-option-boot system, which, once started, can be used in 4 “modes”: “Only Dos”, “Windows 3.1″, “Interlnk client”, “Interlnk server”. Also, I’ve put on it the drivers for my “new” printer, Office 6.0 for windows and some games… the next goal is browsing the net with it!
Plain and simple question… will this Dell Studio 1555 AC Adapter explode? If you hear it clearly, you will hear a few “ticks” noises from the AC Adapter. I just sent this laptop for service at Dell, since it had many software & media issues which I already explained to them. They returned the laptop with a note saying that “after extensive tests” the issue was caused by the Hard Drive (a 320 gb 5400 rpm), which they didn’t have in stock, but as soon as they had it, they would send it to me. They sent wrong hard drive (160GB 7200 RPM). Anyways, to avoid to send again to shop I decided to keep it. This is just part of my issues with dell… I also had another laptop with touchpad drifting issue (very common uh?) and they simply would never fix it. I hope to make some noise with this. Tks! PS by the way, Dell DO have a blacklist for buyers!
