Need help with buying a USB to IDE Converter Cable?

Ok so about 9 months ago my old computer crashed, it was some custom built one with a samsung SP1213N internal hdd.

I never really new what the problem was, I am not that tech savvy but it was christmas time so I just got a good deal on a new laptop.

Now recently it has come to my attention that i can retrieve files from this dead computer’s hard drive , using a cable that would turn it into a external hard drive that I could just plug in to my laptop’s usb.

Would a USB 2.0 to IDE ATA External Hard Disk CD-ROM DVD Drive Adapter Converter Cable work for a samsung SP1213N?

Please I really need help because I had allot of important pictures on that computer like family stuff and some writing.

What is a USB SATA IDE Adapter?

I just bought a IBM 560e thinkpad. It doesn’t have a USB port or cd-rom. If i buy a USB SATA IED, would i be able to hook up my cd-rom and hard drive to my laptop. With the USB outlet, would i be able to hook up my devices that have USB to this USB port.

USB hard drive to ATA desktop drive?

I have a Fujitsu 40 GB 2.5" laptop drive, model MHT2040AT. I want to connect this drive to my desktop computer. I have already bought an adapter to connect this drive to my computer, but for some reason, the BIOS System Setuprecognizes it as "Unknown Drive" and i can’t do anything with it. How do i make the drive usable?? —I have two other hard drives, SATA (main windows drive) and IDE (backup). I want to install this drive to put Windows Vista on it.
My Drive Configuration:

Primary SATA: Hard Drive
Primary Master IDE: CD-ROM
Primary Slave IDE: CD-ROM
Secondary Master: Hard Drive
**Secondary Slave: Unknown Drive**
—-How do i make it show as a Hard Drive?—
i have also bought an 2.5" to 3.5" ATA adapter

I have done this before before with the 540 MB drive that came with the laptop.
