Its got a- Pentinium 3 processor, WiFi card, AC adapter, 256 MB Ram, 20 GB hard drive, and DVD player/disc drive, and its newley refurbished with plug in battery charger, speakers and a 14 inch screen. Its old but I think its worth it. and it costs 0 dollars. Is that a good deal and is it a good laptop?
HP PAVILION LAPTOP) The RCA plug was plugged in the audio and somebody walked pass it and knocked the RCA off but the metal piece of the RCA got stuck inside and I think it messed up my motherboard because now my computer cannot restart or go on standby.
Also, it only powers up if the AC adapter is plugged in. It will not start with the battery..just show a blank screen and the lights only but after it starts it’ll still run on the battery so maaybe the motherboard or hard drive is defective? Will hp warranty cover my motherboard/hard drive because of that?
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook (out of warranty) that fell from 2-3 ft. onto a hard ceramic floor. Before the fall, it was powered on and working fine, but in the closed position. When I picked it up and opened it, the screen was black and the power lights were off. I did not see any noticeable breakage on the computer. I pushed the power button to turn it back on but nothing happened, no lights, no sounds, nothing.
I tried resetting my computer by holding in the power button for 30 seconds, removing the battery, holding the power button again, attaching the ac adapter without battery, etc. No luck.
I’m sure the problem is not my power source, as I just got a new battery charger/adapter which is working fine, and my battery was fully charged. I also know the problem is not with the hard drive, as I have since removed the laptop’s hard drive and used a hard drive enclosure to connect it to my desktop computer to retrieve my files. All files were intact.
I am pretty good with a screwdriver and I have the service manual for my Dell Inspiron 6000. I like to try to fix things myself before taking to a repair shop. I have some electronics knowledge and know the safety precautions to take. All I need is someone to tell me what to look for that I haven’t tried already.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 I bought in December 2005 and now it is basically useless. It runs very slow; if the AC adapter comes out it turns off; I no longer have my original startup page and somehow I am no longer able to access Microsoft word. I am interested in purchasing a new laptop that will last longer with good battery life and a Microsoft package but I am clueless about REM, hard drive, etc.
i just bought a laptop on ebay. based on the item description, it works fine, but it doesnt include a hard drive, hard drive caddy, power ac adaper and battery. i have no problem replacing the battery and ac adapter, but i want to know, what kind of hard drive does it take so i can buy the size caddy for the laptop. heres a more descriptive look:
I just got a USB laptop hard drive enclosure. It has a port for external power, but it didn’t come with an AC adapter because USB provides power.
But unlike with a 3-prong power cable which I know is grounded, I have no idea how much grounding is provided by USB. The USB port on it appears to be a Mini-B. Will the hard drive be sufficiently grounded to avoid i.e. power surges when connected to my comptuer?
I guess it wasn’t entirely clear, but my concern is damage to the hard drive, not to myself.
Here’s the deal: My laptop’s ac adapter is broken, completely needs to be replaces although I do not have the cash for that currently and the battery has been dead for some time, there is basically no way to turn said laptop on. There are files on this particular laptop’s hard drive that I DESPERATELY need. How do I get those files into my hands? Is there a way to hook up a removed hard drive to another computer and view those files? I am at a loss of what to do here,
We have 2 HP Pavilion Dv5000 laptops. One of them will not start up. I have tested the ram, the hard drive, AC adapter/power cord, both batteries in the other laptop and the hardware all works.
So in the bad laptop, all the lights come on, fan comes on, DVD drive works, but laptop refuses to boot up. Cant get anything up on the screen to go into BIOS or Safe mode. After everything we have read and tried, we have come to the conclsion either the CPU got fried or the motherboard has gone bad. Just trying to figure out if the laptop would still have power and lights if the CPU or motherboard is dead. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
PS… do not tell me to call HP or take it to a tech repair, I cant afford it and HP refuses to help anyone. Its all over google about these laptops & HPs horrible customer service/lack of help with this issue.
In response, I have tried to hook it up to a working monitor and still doesnt work. Also, I have tried the "Fn + F6" trick which has seamed to work wonders for everyone else and the cycling the power trick (removing batteries, power cord, holding power button down for 30 secs to 1 min, then plug in and power up) Nothine of them has worked. Ok, thank you for the great answers and advice. It is very much appreciated. I will leave this question up just in case anyone else has anything to add to the list. Thanks again guys
my old laptop’s connector pin (where you plug the AC adapter to charge the battery) is broken. I need files from my old laptop to be put on my new laptop. how can I do that if the old laptop is like that?
I know I need to buy a transfer cable (Belkin Easy Transfer For Windows Vista).
do I need crossover cables or do I manually take out the old laptop’s hard drive (don’t know how to do that)?
And if so what would the receiving computer look like with this other hard drive in it? The reason i need to do this is because my laptops battery and ac adapter died and I need to get the files so I can put them in the new laptop I am getting soon.
The laptop with the dead power is a Dell inspiron e1705
I have a dell latitude d600 that I just bought a new ac adapter for
Previously I have never had a problem with this computer
but after I charged it up and tried to turn it on
It just goes to a black screen and says "primary hard disc drive 0 not found"
and on the setup utility menu it says theres no primary hard drive
but Ive taken the hard drive out and put it back in several times but for some reason it still wont recognize it
Where can I find a 1 TB external hard drive that runs off USB power only? Which is the best model?
I need it for my laptop, and I am not willing to carry the AC adapter with me each time I travel.
Is it possible to run a USB-powered portable external hard drive for too long? Like, could I have it hooked up to my macbook laptop for 3 or 4 hours a day running stuff off the external hard drive or would it be bad since it runs off USB and doesn’t have its own AC adapter?
This is a tutorial for replacing a laptop LCD screen. You can generally use this tutorial to replace most laptop LCD screens. Thank you for viewing it!
I have my laptop…and i got it during last christmas. And its been perfect! and all i use it for is internet and pictures. But a few weeks ago My laptop kept giving me error pop ups about my AC adapter, and how it was not the right one for my computer and how if i don’t have the right one my computer won’t Function right, the thing about that is. it was the same exact cord that i bought with the laptop, and it worked up until this point. Then….My laptop started to slowly die, and I THOUGHT that it was charging, but it really wasn’t it used what battery was left. But once my laptop finally died….(over night when i wasn’t using it, but i had it plugged in) I tried to turn it on and it said The ac adapter is not the one ment for this laptop. and told me to get the one that is 60hz or more. i looked at my cord and it was that DX…
Now when i try to turn my laptop on, it says i have no hard drive!….
And i’ve Tried many things, and also my friend matt had tried, but nothing worked.
why does it say i have no hard drive? i never took it out xD
D:
this situation depresses me a lot.
i just want my laptop to work again. i loved it.
help?
taking the battery out then trying it, did not work.
I might just send it back to dell….or just give up and earn more money and get a holw new laptop.
I’ll show you how to tell if you bought a fake, counterfeit hp 65 watt AC Adapter for your laptop. The vast majority of hp/compaq 65w AC Adapters being sold on auction sites and privately operated website venues are fake counterfeit junk being supplied to wholesalers across the country by a network of criminals operating out of the San Francisco, and San Jose areas of California. Someone in customs is paid off, and they are imported the fake garbage by the container load. No seller of legitimate brand name merchandise can compete with their prices (because they sell substandard garbage), so the gang has gradually wiped out legitimate sellers. The junk they sell won’t last long, the hyped warranties are illusory because the item usually has to returned to an obscure address in China. If the seller is located in the US, their location is often a mystery. They are avoiding taxes and sitting on a pile of dangerous garbage. The junk they sell overheats and burns houses and businesses down all the time. They are not worth the bargain due to their short lifespan and because they are dangerous.
