how to make custom external Harddrives…2.5″ and 3.5″. Laptop vs. desktop connectivity?
I am a little confused how this all works. I have been looking at some 2.5 and 3.5 external closures to make my own portable hard drive, but I don’t know what I am doing. To connect to both my desktop pc and laptop, will I need a power adapter to go with the external closure? Say I bought a laptop(2.5) hard drive, along with an external closure. Will that hard drive connect to my desktop and laptop without a power source? Or just one? or neither?

Generally, 3.5" cases (for desktop drives) will need their own external supply. 2.5" cases can be powered from USB only, but may need two USB ports, or they need an external supply.
Just buy a real enclosure and save yourself the time and trouble.
