Laptop Harddrive Adapter Archives

I am pretty sure it is, but just thought I’d get a little more input… It’s an HP Nx9010 laptop, 2.4 ghz, Mobil Intel Pentium 4, used but in excellent condition, 80gig hard drive, cdrw/dvd rom, 512mb ram, ATI video card, 3 usb ports, 15inch display, built in wireless adapter, battery, power supply, has Windows XP Professional installed, and battery holds a good charge. —->0.00

What do you think?

I need an adapter to my hard drive?

I have this hard drive for my laptop but I can’t install any OS on it I tried all hte possible ways but i just can’t but I think you can get an adapter for it so you can stick it in a desktop or any other computer with USB and install and OS into it heres the pic of my laptop hard drive

This is what I know at the moment when buying a laptop:
1) Hard disk drive: 80 Gb or greater
2) RAM: 512 MB (2GB or greater..better)
3) Processor: 2.1GHz
4) Numerous USB ports, well as VGA, DVI,serial, PC card slot, and parallel ports
5) Integrated 802.11g wireless adapter (WiFi) compatibility
6) Warranty: at least 2 year on both software and hardware issues(better)
7) Intels new Core 2 Duo CPU’s or AMD
8) Battery life: want 12-cell, but a 9-cell is alright
9) I want Windows XP Pro
10) dual 8800gtx sli ( I have no idea what this means, can someone explain this one to me)
11) Built-wireless and CD/DVD burner
12) Rotational speed hard drive 7200 RPM
13) Screen size: 14" to 15.4" (I want light weight but big enough to read what I am typing)
14) I would also like to be able to connect my digital camera to it.

I think I have research everything I think I need to know, but if anyone can add please feel free to do so. I just don’t know which brand is better than the other.

How much would I get for this laptop?

The laptop is in good condition. Shows normal sign of use. The laptop includes an Ac adapter and the battery still hold a good charge.

something isnt installed.. and i cant even get on the internet on my laptop to install anything. what do i do???

I am a little confused how this all works. I have been looking at some 2.5 and 3.5 external closures to make my own portable hard drive, but I don’t know what I am doing. To connect to both my desktop pc and laptop, will I need a power adapter to go with the external closure? Say I bought a laptop(2.5) hard drive, along with an external closure. Will that hard drive connect to my desktop and laptop without a power source? Or just one? or neither?

Its got a- Pentinium 3 processor, WiFi card, AC adapter, 256 MB Ram, 20 GB hard drive, and DVD player/disc drive, and its newley refurbished with plug in battery charger, speakers and a 14 inch screen. Its old but I think its worth it. and it costs 0 dollars. Is that a good deal and is it a good laptop?

HP PAVILION LAPTOP) The RCA plug was plugged in the audio and somebody walked pass it and knocked the RCA off but the metal piece of the RCA got stuck inside and I think it messed up my motherboard because now my computer cannot restart or go on standby.

Also, it only powers up if the AC adapter is plugged in. It will not start with the battery..just show a blank screen and the lights only but after it starts it’ll still run on the battery so maaybe the motherboard or hard drive is defective? Will hp warranty cover my motherboard/hard drive because of that?

I have my external hard disk or hard drive…I dont know which is which but it requires a power source it was working fine but now non of my computers "sees" it…I tried my desktop several times and USB ports later I gave up and connected it to my HP laptop…again..tried all the ports and nothing happens. Then I realized that the adapter isn’t heating up as it usually does? Do I just need to get a new power adapter or is it hopeless? I just need to recover those files…actually image/graphic templates for my site…very important to me.

How can I protect a bare hard drive?

I recently bought a SATA-to-USB adapter to move my data from a laptop internal HDD (the laptop’s battery fried and I just decided to upgrade to a desktop). It works really well, but the only problem is that it didn’t include any sort of casing or protection for the bare drive. Currently I just have it sitting in the static-proof package it originally came in, but I’m worried about the potential effects of lingering dust and humidity changes — I live in Duluth, so humidity is a major issue in this case.

I’ve been looking at hard drive enclosures, but it almost looks as though those simply hold on to the drive; is there anything out there I can place my hard drive in so it can be protected, but still exposes the SATA connections so I can connect it to my computer?
EDIT: I should mention that I would really like to treat this additional drive as an external USB drive. My internal HDD on the tower is 500 GB, which is more than enough for my needs; it would just be nice to have a transportable drive I can keep things like movies and .iso files on. I’d even entertain some MacGyver-type solution; I’m not looking to operate it in a vacuum by any means, I just want something that’d keep it relatively safe from harm.

I’m not sure how else to ask the question. I had a hard drive from an older computer that I figured I’d keep to use for storage and backups.
I used one of those universal converters that allow me to hook it up as an external drive. When it first connected, I turned off the ‘autoplay’ function immediately because it started running through files.
Anyway, I immediately did nothing other than start a scan with AVAST. It found a worm. It wouldn’t clean it either. So, I immediately disconnected the drive (just unplugged – didn’t ask or do it through the menu).
I’m concerned that my main drive w/ the OS system is now infected. I’ve got it scanning right now, but I’m concerned that it if was infected, AVAST won’t work properly.
I’m asking this from my laptop.
One other comment that might make a difference – the episode knocked it off the wireless network. Now, the netgear adapter on that pc can’t see my wireless network.
This is very strange. Details aside, the bottom line question is – will the simple act of linking up a hard drive spread a virus that has infected it? Would the virus scanner "wake it up" somehow?

Any input would be appreciated.

-Kevin
JEH,
Thanks so much for the solid input. I did not power down. I was leary that it would enable the virus to gain a better ‘toehold’ – although I don’t understand them well enough to know this for sure.
The network is working fine, as I was able to link in using my laptop. I have had occasional bugginess w/ the netgear setup but it’s usually ok. I did not allow autoplay to play anything or open anything. My mind will rest easier, but nonethess I will scan the living s&*% out of it in the next couple of days. (I’m doing the complete scan using avast right now, using the deepest setting.). Next, I’ll reboot and do it from the boot level. Thanks again
That statement was ambiguous. The network is working fine now. I powered down the modem and router then turned it on again. I still have no idea if I needed to or not as I did it before I turned on the laptop.

Not to long ago, I was using my laptop when all the sudden, it wouldn’t boot up completely. I think its the hard drive, in fact I am almost certain its the hard drive. My question is, what are some of the steps I need to take in order to successfully swap my hard drive? When I turn the computer on it displays the following message…

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realteck TRL8100E/8101E Fast Ethernet Network Adapter v1.02 (060510)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

… then it keeps repeating the same message. the reason why I think its the hard drive is because when the hard drive is in the computer it makes a repetitive noise, almost as if it wants to start up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I just took at look at the Bios, and both with and without the hard drive installed it read "no hard drive." One problem down, now whats next? After getting a new hard drive, how do I go abouts to getting it running right? How do I install windows?

What laptop hard drive adapter do I need?

My laptop died, and everything that I had is store on a hard drive, so I took that part off.
Now I want to transfer most of my stuff, pictures, etc. onto my desktop.
I can’t seem to find the right adapter… any idea?
The hard drive is from a Toshiba Satellite a215 laptop.
Hard drive is Fujitsu, Model MHX2250BT and Part NO. CA06846-B210000T

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook (out of warranty) that fell from 2-3 ft. onto a hard ceramic floor. Before the fall, it was powered on and working fine, but in the closed position. When I picked it up and opened it, the screen was black and the power lights were off. I did not see any noticeable breakage on the computer. I pushed the power button to turn it back on but nothing happened, no lights, no sounds, nothing.

I tried resetting my computer by holding in the power button for 30 seconds, removing the battery, holding the power button again, attaching the ac adapter without battery, etc. No luck.

I’m sure the problem is not my power source, as I just got a new battery charger/adapter which is working fine, and my battery was fully charged. I also know the problem is not with the hard drive, as I have since removed the laptop’s hard drive and used a hard drive enclosure to connect it to my desktop computer to retrieve my files. All files were intact.

I am pretty good with a screwdriver and I have the service manual for my Dell Inspiron 6000. I like to try to fix things myself before taking to a repair shop. I have some electronics knowledge and know the safety precautions to take. All I need is someone to tell me what to look for that I haven’t tried already.

Any ideas?

How to make my laptop the most it can be.?

Basically I got my wife a new awesome laptop and I am going to take hers and try to make it the best it can be.

First of all I know this isn’t a speed demon, nor am I expecting that. I only intend to use this for games like guild wars, warcraft3, starcraft, diablo 2. I might also use it for starcraft 2 but that would be it.

So is it worth messing with at all?(I can’t afford another laptop for a few years and do have a good desktop)

My thoughts:
Upgrade to a 80gb 7200rpm hd
Upgrade to 1gb of 333mhz ram(hp told me that it won’t boot if I use 400mhz is that true?)
I found a copper heatsink that I am going to attach to the graphics card itself to help it out.
I intend to keep the hd very clean, run xp pro, and just the programs I need.

Any other suggestions?
