Need help with buying a USB to IDE Converter Cable?

Ok so about 9 months ago my old computer crashed, it was some custom built one with a samsung SP1213N internal hdd.

I never really new what the problem was, I am not that tech savvy but it was christmas time so I just got a good deal on a new laptop.

Now recently it has come to my attention that i can retrieve files from this dead computer’s hard drive , using a cable that would turn it into a external hard drive that I could just plug in to my laptop’s usb.

Would a USB 2.0 to IDE ATA External Hard Disk CD-ROM DVD Drive Adapter Converter Cable work for a samsung SP1213N?

Please I really need help because I had allot of important pictures on that computer like family stuff and some writing.

WD My Book Unboxing

This video is now public. 6/6/2010 WD MYBOOK Essential 2.0 UNBOXING When I opened up this 500 GB hard drive, I saw that it has 2 platters and 3 heads. The top platter is completely useless and does not have a head. Buy the 640 GB one for the same 2 Platters but 4 read/write heads. The 1 TB WD Caviar Green are the worlds quietest 1 TB and 2TB drives. I lost my trust in Seagate when they took Maxtor. Some Seagates being manufactured today either last 3 days or a couple of years. Its a 40% Chance if you buy a 1; 1.5; or 2 TB hard drive from Seagate, it fails out of the box within 3 days. Inside is a Western Digital Caviar Green Hard Drive, if your a fan of WD like me, you would know that they have 3 lines of hard drives: WD Caviar Green; WD Caviar Blue; and WD Caviar Black Also inside you will find a SATA to USB adapter, which is integrated in the WD My Passports which is gay so you can’t use them for upgrading laptops/ PS3′s

I just bought this external hard drive

the seagate extreme, and I want to use the eSATA option for doing backups.

Ive seen a few esata to usb adapters, but I think that it will defeat the purpose if I run eSATA through a usb.
are there any other adapters i can use?
I have a dell D800
Its pretty old, but I know how to take care of it.
yeah it comes with a usb cable
but Ii would rather use eSATA for backing up my computer

Drobo Unboxing (4 Bay, FW800 + USB)

I purchased a Drobo off of Amazon the other day so I could backup all of the files on my computer in a more reliable way. It essentially takes all of my data, and stores it on up to 4 HDD’s inside of it. One of the nice things about it is that it’s redundant. This means that if any hard drive were to fail inside the Drobo, I can replace it without losing any data. This is because the other HDD’s in it also have the same data stored on them. So it makes it very difficult for me to lose any of my data. Which is a very, very good thing. =]

Would I need one of those USB hubs with the AC adapter?

Hi

I have one of those generic USB 2.0 hard drive enclosures with the weird USB cable. It has the smaller male on one end (Male B or something) and two Male A plugs on the other end. I use to house a 60GB drive (I think it’s Seagate).
When I used the drive on my old laptop, it worked fine. Then I bought another laptop, and gave the older one to my sister. On my newer laptop, it wouldn’t work unless I had it hooked up to the old laptop as well for extra juice.

I’m wondering, also, if not having a battery in the newer laptop plays a role in this (probably so, right?).

Until I can get a replacement battery, should I look for one of those AC-powered USB hubs in the meantime, and where would be a good place to get them online?

Radio Shack PlayStation-to-USB Adaptor Review

This adaptor, which sells for .99 at Radio Shack, allows you to connect your PS1 or PS2 Dual Shock controller to your PC. This is useful for playing emulators with your favorite classic games, and works well as a normal PC gamepad as well. Here I put it through the rounds of various emulators for NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis. I also take it for a spin in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

I would like to hear solutions and no comments saying "No it is impossible." I know products like this exist.

http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-527950.html

I know they aren’t true DV quality because because they convert the video to mpeg1. USB 2.0 is slower than firewire and information being sent through usb is limited depending on hardware. I dont care how slow it takes as long as the video quality pretty close to DVD. Once again i wish i could just go out and buy an express card or PCMCIA firewire card but my laptop does not let me do that.
cheap ebay usb/firewire cables do not work right? because they are two completely different technologies?
I have bought easycap for analog devices and I’m pretty happy with the quality.

So possible solutions I have questions about are…
usb/firewire hub.
Firewire flash drive with USB cable for converter connectivity.
card slot to usb adapter
firewire to usb adapter
dual usb/firewire external harddrive
or any other options I read probably 10 more.

What do you recommend?

I want to keep the budget under dollars because its pretty dumb i have to do all this. So pinnacle moviebox i dont not want to buy.

P.S. I asked HP support for a solution and they said just buy a usb/firewire adapter and they assured me no video quality will be lost. haha right.

live.pirillo.com – As time goes on, hardware does evolve. It’s likely if you buy a computer these days, you may not be able to connect some of your older devices. I was recently in that position, and found myself looking for an uber adapter.

In this video, I unbox and review the 2.5″ external hard drive case from Ultra. This case features USB 2.0, eSATA, a extra USB ‘DC power’ connection, and a nice aluminum finish. In the box comes the case its self, a USB 2.0 cable, eSATA (3Gbps) cable, a ‘DC power’ USB cable (for extra power in case the bus power on the one cable is not enough), a eSATA mounting bracket (for a desktop), and a leather cover (for the case). I picked this up from Tiger Direct for about (US) and I would recommend this produce to anyone.
